 The School Counselor's Commitment

            I am a counselor. I am committed to faith in human worth, dignity, and potential.

           I pledge use of the knowledge and skills which are mine to promote the betterment

 of my students, whose uniqueness I will respect, and of my society, which is

     enhanced by those whom I serve. I shall adhere to and be governed by the Code 

            of  Ethics of my profession, and shall conduct myself in a manner that is acceptable

              under these standards. I accept the challenge of autonomous and competent practice.

      This is my solemn affirmation to my studnets, to this profession, to our society

and to all humanity.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Ascension School Counselors Association (ASCA) is to promote positive development and adjustment among the children whom we serve. It is our desire to enhance student achievement and produce productive members of our society. Also, we encourage the personal and professional development of counselors and to promote progress, understanding and improvement of counseling services within the educational system.

 

Counselors provide services in the following areas:

v      Crisis Prevention/Intervention;

v      Mental and Emotional Concerns; 

v      Safe Schools and Conflict Resolution;

v      Academic and Career Assessment;

v      Character Education

v      Personal issues such as Grief counseling, self-esteem, and anger management;

v      At-risk and Drop-out Prevention;

v      Substance Abuse; 

v      Child, Adolescence, and Domestic Abuse.

 

“Professional school counselors have a master’s degree or higher in school counseling or the substantial equivalent, meet the state certification/licensure standards and abide by the laws of the states in which they are employed. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of professional counseling associations and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model: foundation, delivery, management and accountability.” (American School Counseling Association)
